Our racing bike is old and rusty. But we’re sorry to throw it away because they gave it to us. We have beautiful memories spent riding our bike! In the company of friends, we went for small trips out of town. Every time we were home from work. If we want to paint our vintage velocipede, we just need the right advice on how to do it. In the end, we get a new bike to give to our nephew.
Requirement :
- Stripping-off bike
- Sheet or cardboard to hang on the floor
- Paper tape
- Universal paint remover if the color is not natural
- Old rags and spatula to pull off the color
- New tint vaporizer
- Abrasive paper for old color
- A fairly large environment if we want to proceed after hanging the bike and covered the floor so as not to get dirty
- Screwdriver or wrench
- Gloves, protective glasses and work clothes
This type of maintenance is done for every type of model and brand. When we spray the paint, if we can, hang it on the wall from the fork hole. But first, we have to take it apart. Or an old sheet is prepared on the garage floor. Or better still a cardboard box.
But have we checked whether the two wheels still have the original pigment? Or if they sprayed a can? In both cases, we support the bike on the ground. With the handlebars and the saddle at the bottom. Always if we do not have a garage to hang it up. We start to disassemble the wheels and if there are also mudguards. It is better to remove the parts that we do not have to deal with the paint. Not to run the risk of staining them when we do the rest of the frame.
If we do not have the tools at home we go to a hardware store to buy the screwdriver suitable for the handlebars, the brakes and so on. We take care to keep the piece and the right screw aside. To avoid problems during assembly. If we do not feel confident, we cover the areas that we do not have to paint with the paper tape. If the painting is not the original one, we must use a thinner before proceeding. If it is not chlorine, we use a product that does not contain this substance. On the other hand, the synthetic one or a universal stripper is fine.
What you use for the iron is fine! If we are in a hurry, we pour some rags on it. We rub with some insistence until we see the original painting. Vice versa, we spread the diluent on the mountain bike and wait patiently for drying. Afterwards with a suitable brush, we remove the residues. We work without moving the bike from the cardboard, and we ventilate the room if the bike is at the top. We cover the tiles with sheets.
After a whole day, you can take off the scotch. Before repainting it with a second bottle of spray, we use protective glasses. If the shade is the same as always, but it is not shiny as it once was, we remove the remains with medium-grained sandpaper. But first with a piece, we remove the accumulations of grease on the frame. Rub the paper to get a smooth surface and spray the new glazing. With a brush, we remove the dust. Only then does the dye stick to the frame!
Note : Before giving it a new color and after stripping, remember to use the anti-rust brush.
